Wrapped by the sprawling verandah of a building with nearly 150 years of history, Nieuw Ruin is a small bar and eatery in Fremantle.
Head Chef, Blaze Young indulges her passion for super fresh, hyper-local produce with a menu that is designed to seamlessly shift from relaxed snacks at the bar into a generous dinner at the custom-built communal tables.
All their produce, most particularly the seafood, is locally and sustainably sourced, which makes it subject to change daily. Her excitement for food stemmed from the beautiful Western Australian produce that she has access to which she enjoys showcasing simply and elegantly to let the quality shine through.
Most of their wines are sourced from small, independent producers. A real pick-n-mix lolly bag full of weird and wonderful wines from boutique, independent producers near and far. Beers span from crispy-clean lagers through to nerdy, hop-laden crafties, as well as some top-notch non-alcoholic options.
The WA Good Food Guide is a celebration of all that is excellent in the Western Australian dining scene across all areas of cooking, entrepreneurship, wine, beer and service and this is what they have to say about Nieuw Ruin, part of The Top 100 list - "Natural wine and a nostalgic food focus are a perfect recipe for WA’s latest entrant into the burgeoning wine-bar landscape."
