Sink your toes into the white silica sands of the renowned Whitehaven Beach, one of the many jewels in The Whitsundays.
Whitehaven Beach stretches over seven kilometers along Whitsunday Island, the largest of the 74 Whitsunday islands. It defines nature at its best, and it is no surprise it often tops the list of best beaches in the world.
The sand contains 98% silica meaning it is extremely fine and soft. The silica retains heat and makes it a fantastic place to walk on barefoot, even on a hot day.
No matter which end of Whitehaven Beach you will find a stunning lookout to enjoy. At the northern end visitors can explore the iconic Hill Inlet. For the best view, take a stroll up to the Tongue Point lookout, to see the breathtaking view of swirling sands. At the southern end take a short one kilometer walk through Australian native bush to another stunning lookout.
Whitehaven Beach is accessible from the mainland town of Airlie Beach as well as the four resort islands. You can enjoy a day trip with one of the many experienced tour operators, or join an overnight sailing experience, or skipper your own boat. To top up the experience take a scenic flight and why not even land on the beach on a helicopter or seaplane.
