Hinterlandt is a Sydney-based ensemble playing original material written by German-born musician and composer, Jochen Gutsch. The quartet combines elements of contemporary chamber music with indie songwriting into diverse, progressive, and accessible songs. The instrumentation of violin, cello, guitar, vocals and occasional trumpet makes for an intimate, acoustic sound that is carefully constructed around intricate string arrangements.
Hinterlandt has become a well-established ensemble in the Australian underground music scene. The band has performed at Mona Foma Festival in Hobart, City Recital Hall in Sydney, Heide Museum of Modern Art near Melbourne, Ballarat Art Gallery, Wagga Wagga Art Gallery, and similar places, as well as countless shows in artist-run galleries and other grassroots venues such as 107 Projects, Venue 505 and Foundry 616 in Sydney, Smiths Alternative in Canberra, and many more.
