Author Talk with Poli Tataraki Sansey and Michael Winters
Join Poli Tataraki Sansey and Michael Winters as they shed a light on the historical and cultural references made in Moonlit Village – the Battle of Crete.
This presentation will showcase how poetry and linocuts combine to depict ANZAC soldiers and the local population grappling together with the Nazi invasion of Crete. You will hear selected readings by Poli Tataraki Sansey and view projections of corresponding linocuts by Michael Winters which form part of the Australian War Memorial’s permanent collection.
You will experience strange phenomena co-existing in the ancient landscape of Crete, such as shepherds and paratroops, swastikas and Minoan frescoes. In this setting the exhausted and under-equipped Australian soldiers come of age under the benign gaze of the Bull, transplanted into an ancient land to fight against a brutal cutting-edge technology.
This event will be moderated by Jacqui Malins.
