Biochar making session: Turning weeds into a valuable resource
Join Destination Southern Tasmania and DST Positive Impact Committee members as we ‘get our hands dirty’ to make a positive environmental impact.
Making biochar is a fun, easy, and social activity that turns green waste into a functional product. As part of an ongoing project, a dedicated group has turned boxthorn into a valuable resource called biochar.
Making biochar on-site prevents the material from being transported and handled multiple times and eliminates the spread of seeds. You’ll learn about the uses and benefits of biochar while making it. This is a hands-on workshop, so please wear a protective long-sleeve shirt, long pants, and sturdy shoes. Wear a hat for sun protection and bring a water bottle. If you have rigger gloves, bring those along and a couple of buckets, tubs, or containers to take home some biochar for use in your garden.
