GEORGE TOWN REMEMBERS
George Town honours and remembers those who served. The Max Harris Reserve & Memorial Rose Garden was opened in 1998. Max Harris was a prisoner of war in Changi during World War Two. The reserve contains the ANZAC cenotaph, the sculpture is a clear cylinder containing a rifle and a helmet.
Another feature is the Avenue of Honour, a tree-lined path of thirty-two trees in honour of the servicemen who served in World War One. Their names and service details are displayed at the base of each tree.
Saluting their service : Two Bofors anti-aircraft auto-cannon are displayed in honour of Clarence Andrews (RAN - H2031) and Athol Geale (AIF - VX64649).
