Into the Blue Eagle Ray by artist Braham Stevens is an environmentally informed sculpture that showcases the unique coastal setting, lifestyle and marine ecology of the Rockingham foreshore. The public artwork’s uplifting form is styled on a combination of multiple rays that inhabit the diverse ecosystems found along the City’s coastline.
The vertical sculpture’s perforated motif is modelled on "Turing Patterns", which give the local sharks, rays, turtles and Indian Ocean marine life their distinctive appearance. The marine-gill-inspired ribs that shape the rear profile also elude to a ship’s hull - a subtle reference to Rockingham’s maritime past.
