NSW Lancers Museum Tank Days and Behind the Scenes Mystery Items with a Curator
On the last Sunday of every month, take a unique opportunity to visit heritage listed Lancer Barracks, Parramatta and experience seeing their heritage fleet of armoured fighting vehicles on the move.
It could be their world-famous WW2 Matilda Tank named ACE, their 50 tonne Centurion Main Battle Tank or their WW2 Bren Gun Carrier, the Regiment’s first ever armoured fighting vehicle. Youngsters of all ages can get a ride in a Land Rover with a 106 RCL mounted, or "Mr Toad" a 4WD Champ of 1950s vintage.
You can travel the length and breadth of Australia and never witness a national heritage WW2 armoured fighting vehicle that saw action in a major battle, drive around in the condition its wartime crew would have known it. Then get up close and experience the world of a "Tankie" by looking inside the tank. To watch, hear and smell a large tank fire its engines and drive around, is like watching, hearing and smelling a large steam train moving – very, very different from looking at a “dead” item in a display shed.
