yalingbuth yalingbu yirramboi is an event hosted by Wandoon Estate Aboriginal Corporation to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the closure of Coranderrk Aboriginal Station in 1924.
This event offers an opportunity to reflect on the Coranderrk community’s impressive effort to gain autonomy, and this powerful narrative holds relevance today.
Featuring singer songwriter Mutti Mutti man Kutcha Edwards and trio. As well as the Ilbijerri Theatre Company’s production of ‘Coranderrk’. This play provides context; how Coranderrk came to be established, how the 1881 Parliamentary Inquiry came about and what happened after it concluded. Starring Trevor Jamieson.
Sharing stories from yalingbuth (yesterday), where they occurred, reclaims these events of an unjust past, shifting the narrative and transforming yalingbu (today) into a positive yirramboi (tomorrow).
