In addition to the Museum’s daily exhibits, Tarmac Days highlight specific events or eras in aviation. Tarmac Days are held outside the HARS hangars on the second Friday, Saturday and Sunday of every month, displaying some of the unique aircraft held at its headquarters at the Illawarra Regional Airport at Albion Park.
Members of the public will be able to board and sit in some of the aircraft cockpits including the Lockheed Super Constellation, Catalina, and Neptune submarine hunter. Guided tours of the aircraft on display are available and run throughout the day.
Take the opportunity to check out the other amazing collections at the museum - including the exquisite restoration work of HARS aviation volunteers with their replica of Kingsford-Smith’s Southern Cross. Don't miss the Boeing 747-438 "City of Canberra" Longreach, Qantas Passenger Jet, awarded the world record for the longest non-stop flight by a commercial aircraft – from London to Sydney in August 1989. Add on a wing walk, cockpit tour or premium tour (bookings required) of this aircraft to get up close and personal with the sheer scale and awe-inspiring detail of this record-breaking beauty - the only one in Australia!
