A visit to Georges Head is a must for military history buffs. The Georges Head battery is located in Mosman, on the northern side of Sydney Harbour.
Come to Georges Head to see military fortifications from the World War II era. Examine the parapet cut into sandstone at the start of the 19th century to ward off a feared French invasion. You can also explore a series of interlinking tunnels and passageways, excavated after the withdrawal of British colonial troops garrisoned in Sydney. Finally, walk around the headlands to see World War II gun emplacements and enjoy some spectacular views of the gateway to Sydney Harbour, South Head and North Head.
With 150 years of military history, as well as outstanding Sydney Harbour views, Georges Head is one of the best places to visit in Sydney Harbour National Park.
