Richmond is approximately 62 kilometres northwest of the Sydney central business district and is one of the Hawkesbury's five towns that Governor Lachlan Macquarie established in 1810. The town can be easily accessed by car or train and easily explored by foot.
The historic charm of Richmond can be fully explored on a self-guided heritage walk of the town. In 1811 the township, streets and market square were surveyed by James Meehan.
