This cheap-and-cheerful restaurant is dedicated to the cuisine of Northern Thailand, in particular the streets of Chiang Mai. And just as you’d expect if you were in Thailand, the atmosphere is lively, the space busy, the food generous and the prices extremely reasonable. Pull up a chair inside or outside then order the house speciality: claypot soups that come to your table on a gas cooker. This is a DIY job, which means you get to add your choice of meat, seafood, vegetables and noodles to the broth, and then dip them in various sauces when they’re cooked to your liking.
Other Northern Thai favourites include ka nom jeen, made with vermicelli noodles, pork bone, pork blood jelly and a spicy tomato-based soup; and khao soi, a coconut-based soup with chicken or beef and egg. The restaurant has a separate kitchen for desserts, which revolve around grilled toast and roti served with pandan custard, Thai milk tea custard, condensed milk, Milo and condensed milk, and chilli jam and shredded pork.
