The Black Seahorse is more than just a gift shop; they are a collective of creative indigenous artists who want to showcase their art and products designed to present our stories and connection to sea country. Their beautiful Wunyami (the tribal name for Green Island) is a culturally significant site for the Gungandji and Yidinji tribes. Wunyami is covered in the 6000-year-old rainforest on an ancient coral cay and surrounded by protected coral and seagrass beds.
The Black Seahorse is known to bring luck amongst the elders of this Sea Country and the Great Barrier Reef. Therefore, the Black Seahorse wants to give back. 20 percent of all profits will be reinvested into research and development of embedding tribal science back into the management of Sea Country in and around Green Island.
