The Australian Alpine Epic Trail is the jewel in the crown of Mt Buller’s mountain bike trails. It is the first IMBA accredited Epic trail in the Southern Hemisphere, offering a 40 kilometre ride that descends over 1,000 vertical metres from the top of Mt Buller down into the surrounding valley.
This is the first long-distance mountain bike trail to be built within the Australian Alps landscape; an incredibly rare environment as it constitutes less than 0.1% of the continent.
Tough and exhilarating, it takes riders on a truly unique journey travelling through snow gum woodlands that exist nowhere else in the world, to treeless alpine summits, dropping off into cool ferny glades surrounded by granite monoliths, and finishing alongside a crystal clear mountain stream.
Aside from the stunning scenery, trail features include the ability to break the trip up into sections that can be tackled either as a whole or individually - supported by 3 to 5 star accommodation at Mt Buller, or mountain huts along the way – and the thrilling 10 kilometre descent at the end of the ride that offers the perfect way to finish this challenging four to seven hour journey.
