Visit the Gingin Cemetery to view a colourful display of Kangaroo Paws. Look out for the subtle differences evident in the varieties of this beautiful wildflower, one of which is believed to be unique to the area.
The Kangaroo Paw is the floral emblem of Western Australia and has become a much-loved Australian icon. The flowers are best viewed in spring, from September to November.
Gingin is one of the oldest towns in Western Australia with settlers moving to the area in 1832. Wander around the graveyard in Granville Park in search of historic gravestones dating back to the early settlement years.
Take the Gingin Walkabout trail to learn more about the interesting history of Gingin. The cemetery is included on the tour, along with the Gingin Post Office and other historic buildings. Stop in at the Gingin Community Resource and Visitor Centre to collect a trail map before heading to Granville Park to start the 45-minute walk.
The historic town of Gingin is a one-hour drive north of Perth and makes an enjoyable day trip from the city.
